(Miami-Dade County, FL) -- Construction proceeds on the seventh oxygen train at Miami-Dade Water and Sewer Department’s South District Wastewater Treatment Plant. The plant has six existing oxygen trains. In the wastewater treatment process, oxygen trains are where pure oxygen is added to wastewater to assist bacteria in breaking down harmful substances.
This effort is part of a larger project at the South District Wastewater Treatment Plant to expand the plant’s maximum treatment capacity for wastewater by 60 million gallons per day (MGD), from the current 225 MGD to 285 MGD, and provide for high-level disinfection of wastewater, a pre-cursor to the planned future reclaiming of wastewater treated at the plant.
