The lane closure will affect mostly motor vehicle traffic. Bicyclists are advised that part of the closed lane will be used temporarily as a bicycle lane.  Signage will be posted onsite to that effect.  Bicyclists are asked to exercise caution when proceeding through this area.  Your patience and cooperation during this one-week closure are greatly appreciated. 

The existing 12-inch sewer pipeline serving Key Biscayne was replaced last year by a new pipe installed under the Bear Cut waterway. The lining work taking place now on the existing pipe will allow it to be used to provide reclaimed water from a new facility at WASD’s Central District Wastewater Treatment Plant on Virginia Key, for irrigation and other purposes.  

Relining the existing pipeline for reclaimed water, as opposed to installing a new pipeline, offers the dual advantages of reduced cost and reduced disruption of traffic caused by the extensive work involved in installing a new pipeline.
