First EASY Card faregates now operational at Hialeah station

(Miami-Dade County, FL) --
Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is pleased to announce that the new EASY Card faregates at Hialeah Metrorail station are now operational as of July 17.

MDT has been in the process of installing new electronic fare gates at its Metrorail stations as it converts to a new Automated Fare Collection System which will enhance customer convenience and reduce fare evasion. Passengers will use a smart card embedded with a computer chip that will automatically deduct fares when tapped on Metrorail faregates and bus fareboxes.

Golden Passport and Patriot Passport users who have been issued EASY Cards and have already been using them to board the bus can now begin using them on Metrorail. These passengers should tap their cards on the faregate whenever entering or exiting Hialeah Metrorail station. Other Metrorail stations will soon follow.
