Miami-Dade Transit's bus system achieved an 81.55 percent on-time performance rate this April - the highest level in its history.
Since 2007, on-time performance has gone up 11 points as a result of a combination of a proactive maintenance program and periodic route adjustments to enhance systemwide operational efficiency.
"On-time performance is one of the most important measures of customer service, so we're thrilled that our efforts to improve bus schedule reliability are paying off," MDT Director Harpal Kapoor said.
In 2006, MDT implemented a preventive maintenance program that has resulted in a dramatic reduction in bus breakdowns by identifying mechanical issues before they result in failures.
The department also carefully tracks bus on-time performance to determine the need for route or schedule adjustments. Routes are adjusted about twice a year.
