Transit Connections to Miami International Airport

    Important fare information:
    •  Pennies are no longer accepted at Metrobus fareboxes. Click here PDF to read more.

Can I take my luggage on a public bus?

No more than two pieces of luggage are allowed. Passengers with luggage must sit in the rear of the bus.

What are the fares and transfer fees?
The regular fare is $2 for a one-way trip. Each transfer costs 50 cents.

Where do I get a transfer?
Once you pay your fare, deposit another 50 cents and ask the bus operator for a transfer. If transferring to another bus, ask for a bus-to-bus transfer. If transferring to Metrorail, ask for a bus-to-rail transfer.

Is there a route from the airport to the Keys?

Only Greyhound, a private company, provides direct service from Miami to the Keys. Call 1-800-231-2222 for information. There is no direct public transit service to the Keys.

To travel to the Upper Keys on public transit requires taking three buses and Metrorail. At the airport, board Route J to Douglas Road Station, deposit the $2 fare and 50-cent transfer fee, and ask for a bus-to-rail transfer. Exit the bus at Douglas Road Metrorail station. Insert your transfer into the Metrorail turnstile and enter. Then buy another 50-cent transfer from the transfer machine near the escalator, and use the elevator or escalator to get to the platform. Take the southbound train and exit at Dadeland South Metrorail station. Now, transfer to the Busway MAX to Florida City. Get off at the Florida City Wal-Mart, and transfer to the Dade-Monroe Express. The Dade-Monroe Express bus travels only to Mile Marker 50.

Can I stay on public transportation to the end of the route and return to the airport without changing buses?
Yes, if the bus is still in service. However, you must pay the return fare. A round trip is $4.
