At the Dante B. Fascell Port of Miami-Dade, we are embracing the challenges of today's highly competitive marketplace with an exciting transformation in the way we do business that is reflected in our facilities, operations, partnerships, processes, performance and our people.
In short, everything we do at the Port of Miami stems from our goal to be even more than we are today. This commitment is evident to visitors even before they enter the Port, as they see our world-class entrance feature, an 11-foot stainless-steel globe that symbolizes the past, present and future of commerce and the Port's role.
We've been blessed with steadfast backing of the business community and unwavering support of the Mayor, the County Manager and the Board of County Commissioners. And, with a strengthened management team in place, we have become more cost-efficient and price-competitive - enabling us to grow our business and to have an even greater impact on our economy.
The Port of Miami has a total economic impact of more than $17 billion a year and generates more than 176,000 jobs. Port revenues last year totaled more than $101 million.
As the Cargo Gateway of the Americas, the Port of Miami offers services to nearly two dozen of the world's leading cargo lines, reaching some 250 ports in more than 100 countries. We can look forward to increased cargo activity by 2015 with the completion of the Miami Harbor Project, deepening the channel along the main cargo berths to a depth of 50 feet.
On the cruise side, we have experienced two years of continued growth in passenger numbers, as well as establishing new world records, and have finished our latest ultramodern cruise terminal facilities as we build upon our longtime distinction as the Cruise Capital of the World.
The Port of Miami continues to be at the forefront in environmental responsibility, and we were recently recognized by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement as one of Florida's most-secure ports.
Our well-thought-out vision embraces public and private input, and is consistent with the objectives of county government and maritime industry needs.
With a solid business-oriented approach, we have met budgetary challenges, reducing costs while ensuring optimum service to customers.
We have acknowledged that change is inevitable, and we have embraced it, for the benefit of generations to come.
You are most heartily encouraged to share in our enthusiasm.
On behalf of the Port of Miami,

Bill Johnson
