March 29 – April 2, 2010, At over 40 Park Locations
Arts Education Camps, EcoAdventures™ Nature Camps, Camps for Children with Disabilities and more
Spring is just around the corner signaling it’s time for parents to consider what to do for their child’s spring break vacation from school. Miami-Dade Park and Recreation Department will offer its annual Spring Break Camps at parks all across the County for every child’s interest and needs, starting March 29 – April 2, 2010, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with early drop-off available at 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up until 6 p.m.
General program camps with the Fit-to-Play, Green-it-Up theme will feature fitness and sports activities, field trips, arts & crafts, and games. Specialized camps offered during the spring break include EcoAdventures™ nature camps, arts education camps, camps for children with disabilities, the Deering Estate at Cutler's Kids Camp, and Miami MetroZoo Bank of America Zoofari Spring Camp.
EcoAdventures™ nature camps will offer nature-based activities, including trail adventures, field trips, animal exploration, and hiking. Arts education camps are offered at African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) and Raices Cultural Arts Center (Raices). At AHCAC, students will take classes in various arts disciplines and enjoy field trips relating to the arts and recreation. At the end of the one-week period, the students will perform in a workshop showcasing the skills they learned. At Raices, students will learn music, dance and crafts, as well as field trips and other activities. The week will conclude with a presentation highlighting the sights and sounds of the Spanish-speaking Western Hemisphere.
Miami-Dade Parks' Disability Services, in conjunction with The Children's Trust, are offering spring break programs for children with disabilities at six locations. The program will provide children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities ages 6-21 with an enriching experience that will help them improve literacy and social skills, while participating in adaptive sports, arts and crafts, and field trips. Together, Miami-Dade Parks and The Children's Trust, will also offer general program camps at five locations for children of all abilities.
In addition, the Deering Estate at Cutler will offer a spring break camp full of educational and fun adventures. This year the camp will be divided into two groups: The Eco-Explorers group (ages 6-8) will enjoy a week exploring the beauty of the Estate through hiking, treasure hunts, marine life exploration, and more. The Deering Discovery group (ages 9 & up) will experience adventures such as biking, fishing, Bug Hunts, and more. Spring break camp participants will discover and learn about our environment and the history behind the walls of the Deering Estate at Cutler.
Miami MetroZoo will hold the Miami MetroZoo Bank of America Zoofari Spring Camp, a fun-filled educational spring break camp for children ages 5 through 10. Campers will explore animal characteristics and behaviors through animal encounters, interactions with zookeepers, exciting games, and visits to animal exhibits, among other activities.
