General, Nature, Performing Arts, and Camps for Children with Disabilities
Spring break from schools start April 6 and Miami-Dade Parks has camps all across the County for every child's interest and needs, starting April 6 through 10, 2009. Spring camps will be held Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., with early drop-off available at 7:30 a.m. and late pick-up until 6 p.m.
General program camps will feature field trips, fitness and sports activities, arts & crafts and games. Specialized camps offered during the spring break include nature camps, performing arts camps, camps for children with disabilities, and the Deering Estate at Cutler's Kids Camp.
EcoAdventures Nature camps will offer nature-based activities, including trail adventures, field trips, animal exploration and hiking. Arts and culture camps are offered at African Heritage Cultural Arts Center (AHCAC) and Raices Hispanic Heritage Cultural Center (Raices). At AHCAC, students will take classes in various arts disciplines and enjoy field trips relating to the arts and recreation. At the end of the two-week period, the students will perform in a workshop showcasing the skills they learned. At Raices, students will learn music, dance and crafts relating to the Hispanic traditions, as well as field trips and other activities. The two weeks will conclude with a presentation highlighting the sights and sounds of the Spanish-speaking Western Hemisphere.
Miami-Dade Parks' Leisure Access Services, in conjunction with The Children's Trust, are offering spring break programs for children with disabilities at six locations. The program will provide children and adults with physical and developmental disabilities, ages 6-21 years, with an enriching experience that will help them improve literacy and social skills, while participating in adaptive sports, arts and crafts, and field trips.
In addition, the Deering Estate at Cutler will be offering their 2008 Kids Camp spring session where children, ages 6-13, will learn about early South Florida history, archeology and nature.
