What's Happening at Trail Glades Range?
We have created this informational section to help you fully understand the project purpose, its benefits, and keep you informed throughout the construction and renovation process and most important to let you know when the rifle and pistol range will be open again for shooting.

Weekly updates will be provided in the form of a narrative to track work completed vs. work planned in two-week increments. Photos will also be posted to let you "see" what's going on "behind the scenes". Please visit the web site periodically to keep informed. We look forward to having all of you join us during its dedication, and to better serve you as we continue to improve the facility in order to better meet the growing needs of the community.

Project Overview
The work consists of significant improvements to the existing rifle and pistol shooting range, and includes the renovation and relocation of existing backstops and berms. During this process, the lead projectiles accumulated over the years will be removed from the backstops and these areas will be re-graded and reconditioned. Once completed, the redesigned and improved range will be in full alignment with the industry best management practices for a recreational shooting facility.

Additional enhancements include the demolition and replacement of the existing shooting-range firing line and canopy cover, with a new shooting range firing line and roof structure with an integrated "No Blue Sky" baffle feature, which will assist in preventing errant projectiles from leaving the range. New furnishings will include rifle/pistol portable wood and fixed concrete shooting benches (68 positions in total), rifle racks, rear sitting benches and bench rest tables. Also included in the site features will be new target holders that are marked with numbers to represent each shooting position.  The target holders are inserted in pre-measured marked and fixed locations at the 7yd, 15yd, 25yd and 50yd for pistol side and 25yd, 50yd, 75yd, and 100yd for rifle side, preventing the positioning of targets in the wrong locations. Additionally, the pistol line will have side wire-mesh screens preventing uncontrolled errant discharged casings. The scope of work also includes the construction of related site and electrical work required to complete these improvements.

Project Duration
The Rifle and Pistol Range project is scheduled to start August 24, 2009 with a December 22, 2009 completion date. Please note, the construction periods listed herein are estimated and can vary due to weather, materials and other unanticipated issues. In order to minimize the period that the rifle, pistol and practical range will be closed for shooting, we are implementing a construction phasing plan:

PHASE I - The Rifle, Pistol & Practical Range will not be open for shooting for sixty (60) calendar days; the contractor will proceed to work on all elements, but will concentrate their efforts on completing all down range work elements for a period of sixty (60) calendar days (once Phase I is completed, a temporary firing line with a limited number of shooting positions will be provided for the use of our patrons, while the remainder of the work is safely completed behind this line).

PHASE II - The contractor continues working and completes the remainder of the work elements behind the temporary firing line during a period of sixty (60) calendar days.

Current Status
Construction start date is August 24, 2009. Based on this plan, the Rifle, Pistol & Practical Range will not be open for shooting starting August 24, 2009 for 60 days.

PLEASE NOTE: THE PRO SHOP, TRAP, SKEET AND FIVE-STAND FIELDS WILL BE OPEN FOR SHOOTING WHILE CONSTRUCTION IS ONGOING ON THE RIFLE, PISTOL AND PRACTICAL SHOOTING RANGE.

Work Completed or Underway to Date
During the week ending November 20, the contractor completed all scope of work planned for the Action Range. The berms for the 50 and 100 yard backstop were also completed, as well as the slab preparation on the east side of the canopy. The concrete placement is scheduled to be completed next week. The roof framing for the canopy is also in progress and expected to be completed within the next two weeks. The sediment tank trench was backfilled, and the area graded to allow for the planned opening of the Action Range.

During the week ending November 13, the contractor completed the backfill for the west side of the Canopy, the roof rafters for the east side of the canopy, also the dead-man structures for all retaining walls,  and the installation of the steel columns on the west side.

The placement of concrete slab and the posts bases under the Canopy are planned for the week of November 16. The final grading of the (including the backstop) and the backfilling for the sedimentation tank are also scheduled for completion next week. Preparations are underway for the opening of the temporary firing lanes later this month.

During the week ending October 30, the contractor completed erecting all the steel columns on the east side of the firing line canopy as well as the footing pad for the west side which is now completely formed. The placement of the concrete footers is scheduled for early next week. Also completed are the first structure for the west retaining wall, (second and final will be completed next week), and the first structure for the center retaining wall. The east block wall is partially completed as the last remaining 25' will be left open for access until the range grounds are graded and sodded.
