In the Division’s mission to ensure that we are adequately servicing the public and upholding our promise to “Deliver Excellence Every Day”, there have been numerous programs and special events developed for the community that allow the public to become involved in the arts experience. 

Miami-Dade Parks Symphonic Band
Directed by Melton R. Mustafa, the Miami-Dade Parks Symphonic Band is one of the Division’s newest programming initiatives.  The Symphonic Band is comprised of students, seniors, and music enthusiasts of all ages and levels.   The band performs at area parks and cultural facilities, offers mentorship opportunities and provide for the cultural enrichment of the community.  Housed at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, the goal of the band is to represent the rich diversity found in South Florida. 

Noches Tropicales
A free concert series, Noches Tropicales, is dedicated to celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Hispanic music and dance.  This event is held at Tropical Park  four times a year and features live music, dance, and theatrical performances.

Art Expressions
The goal of the Art Expressions program is to bring the arts to the public, in the relaxed setting of the various parks across Miami-Dade County.  The thought-provoking, aw-inspiring installations of such artists as Romero Britto, Freda Tschumy, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, and Tao Rey, among many others, have been on exhibit for all to enjoy.

Calabash Visual Arts Festival
Hosted at the African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, Calabash Visual Arts Festival features local visual artists demonstrating various art techniques. This free event includes lectures, exhibitions and activities for children and is held in conjunction with the Annual Oscar Thomas Memorial Exhibition.

Music Appreciation Program
The Music Appreciation Program is one of the Division’s most versatile programs.  It is designed to reach out to the community by traveling to various parks across Miami-Dade County to teach music to children in Parks’ after school programs, Leisure Access programs, and to senior citizens in a Social/Music Program held at the Women’s Park.
