New Outdoor Gym Opens at Ives Estates Park on Dec. 4
Lace up your sneakers and get ready to work out! Join Miami-Dade County Parks and friends as they dedicate the new Fitness Zone® exercise area at Ives Estates Park on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.The Fitness Zone® is an outdoor gym that is specially designed to help build muscle and cardio strength. And best of all it is free and easy-to-use.
Luisa Maria Güell will perform live at Tropical Park on Dec. 6
This is the second of four FREE family-style concerts in the 2013-2014 Noches Tropicales concert series presented by the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department and sponsored by Target.

Fun and Exciting Events at Zoo Miami this Holiday Season
Guests can enjoy thousands of beautiful animal-shaped lights and dazzling tree lights as they stroll the zoo during the nine nights of Zoo Lights; they can enjoy a Holiday Breakfast with the Zoo Squad; and watch the animals open their specially-prepared gifts during Holiday Gifts for the Animals.
For the most fun, safe, and educational winter break camp, enroll your kids in Zoo Miami's Winter Break Daze where they will be immersed in the world of wildlife and conservation. For ages 4 - 9.
Celebrate the Holiday Season at the Deering Estate at Cutler
Kick-off the Deering Estate's Holiday Season of Events on Friday, December 6th at their annual Tree Lighting Ceremony and enjoy some of your favorite holiday music performed by the Yuletide Carolers. Children can also participate in the lighting of the tree in the historic Stone House Ballroom. Please note that the Deering Estate at Cutler will be closed on Christmas Day.
Pearl Harbor Day of Observance
Miami-Dade County Parks announces a special Pearl Harbor Day observance on Saturday, December 7, from 11 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the Military Museum of South Florida located at 12450 SW 152 Street, Miami (adjacent to Zoo Miami and the Gold Coast Railroad Museum).
Free “Speaking Sustainably” Lecture Series
Hosted by FIU's School of Environment, Arts and Society (SEAS) and the Deering Estate at Cutler, ''Speaking Sustainably'' is a lecture series offered free to the public to engage the community with critical environmental issues and to inspire action. Lectures will be held in the Visitor Center Auditorium.
Fit2play® After-School Program, Aug. 19 - June 5
Fit2Play® is available in 41 park sites, Monday - Friday, from 2 - 6 p.m. Activities for kids, ages 6 -14, will focus on fitness, nutrition and wellness, while developing their appreciation of nature, science and the cultural arts.
Heads Up: Concussion in youth sports
To help ensure the health and safety of young athletes, CDC developed the Heads Up: Concussion in Youth Sports initiative to offer information about concussions to coaches, parents, and athletes involved in youth sports.
The Heads Up initiative provides important information on preventing, recognizing, and responding to a concussion. It's Better to Miss One Game Than the Whole Season!
