    $500 BLIND PERSON'S EXEMPTION

     

    A Florida homeowner, who has a homestead exemption and is certified as legally blind, can qualify for a $500 Blind Person’s Exemption. The legally blind standard is outlined in the law as follows:  “Central vision acuity 20/200 or less in the better eye with correcting glasses, or a disqualifying field defect in which the peripheral field has contracted to such an extent that the widest diameter or visual field subtends an angular distance no greater than twenty degrees.”

     

    There is no income qualification attached to this exemption.

     

    All property Tax Exemption Applications are due March 1st.  

     

    Here’s how to file:

     

    BY MAIL

    IN PERSON

    Step 1

    Click and download the following forms:

    1. Application
    2. Doctor’s Certificate OR Optometrist’s Certification of Total & Permanent disability

     

    Visit one of the following offices:

    Step 2

    Complete the application form.

    Step 3

    Mail to:

    Step 4

    Have a Florida licensed doctor complete the doctor’s certificate.

    Step 5

    Mail the doctor certificate to:

    Miami FL 3310

     

    NOTE : The application is due March 1st. Doctor’s certificates can be submitted after the application but no later thanJune 1st.
