    Governmental Affairs

    Governmental Affairs Division
The Governmental Affairs Division in the Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security serves a multifaceted function.  First, this division is responsible for coordinating an effective disaster-related response and information dissemination system for the Mayor’s Office, the County Manager’s Office, the Board of County Commissioners, and other elected officials.  Further, this division consistently monitors local, state, and federal legislation relating to emergency management and homeland security.  Finally, the Governmental Affairs liaison coordinates several emergency preparedness plans and prepares a legislative briefing book relating to emergency management.

    Municipal Branch Role During Activations
The role of the Municipal Branch within the Miami-Dade EOC (Emergency Operations Center) is to provide the most efficient response and recovery system possible through effective coordination of municipal and county resources.  Municipalities are separated into seven divisions which are represented at the Miami-Dade EOC.  The remaining municipalities are assigned to one of the seven Divisional EOC’s: these municipalities are commonly known as Satellite EOCs.

Divisional EOCs have been identified and are hosted by the cities of:

    • Coral Gables
    • Hialeah
    • Homestead
    • Miami
    • Miami Beach
    • North Miami
