What is Miami-Dade Citizen Corps?
A component of the President’s USA Freedom Corps, Citizen Corps creates opportunities for individuals to volunteer in their local community. The Miami-Dade Citizen Corps Council is a way to get people involved in our community and make South Florida safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to all types of disasters. Citizen Corps is about engaging individuals through education, training, and volunteer service.
The Miami-Dade County, Department of Emergency Management & Homeland Security serves as the host agency for the local Citizen Corps. Through this partnership, the associated Citizen Corps programs, such as the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, Citizen’s Crimewatch, Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS), and Medical Reserve Corps provide important training and skill development opportunities for all citizens, businesses, and community groups on emergency preparedness and public safety.
How Can I Help?
The Miami-Dade Citizen Corps is always looking for helpful and energetic volunteers and participants. You can join one of the excellent programs that suits your interests and/or skill level, or become a member of all the programs! Join a CERT team, start a neighborhood crimewatch, help your police department, and assist medical personnel- you can do it all!!
The Miami-Dade Citizen Corps is governed by a General Council, and you or your business/organization can join the Council and help build our group of local partners. Currently, we have representatives from emergency management, medical professionals, business and industry, neighborhood associations, faith-based groups, and many more- but we need you too! Get involved today!! |
