Beginning November 12, residents and visitors in Miami-Dade County can be a part of an expanded Wireless Miami-Dade experience. Select Metrorail and Metrobus routes now offer free Wi-Fi allowing riders to access the Internet via laptop or other wireless device. The pilot program will run through spring 2010.
Mayor Carlos Alvarez's Wireless Miami-Dade Initiative first took shape in February 2008 when three of Miami-Dade County's parks went wireless. More than 92,000 users have already taken advantage of free wireless service provided Tropical, Tamiami and Goulds Parks. Discussions are underway to expand the Wireless Miami-Dade Initiative to additional parks and county-owned facilities.
The Wireless Miami-Dade Initiative seeks to create an environment that is technologically appealing to residents, visitors and businesses; to establish and maintain a sense of community safety; and to reach out to underserved residents.
