This 4th of July, as you celebrate our nation's birthday, do so with great pride and reflection. Be grateful to live in a nation where you have freedom, equality and justice for all citizens. Remember our forefathers, who had the insight to establish our great nation on these principles. And, be thankful for the men and women in our military who have fought and are still defending our liberty.
Throughout the County, there will be many special events, parades and fireworks displays. Miami-Dade will be celebrating 4th of July with beams of red, white and blue lights shining on the Stephen P. Clark Government Center building, starting July 1.
None of us has a crystal ball, but the incentives for a bustling business corridor to develop between the stadium and downtown are too great not to occur as our economy recovers. The entire County will reap the rewards. Urban patterns are changing with a new focus on close-in development, and the ballpark, which is less than two miles from downtown, is poised to anchor a thriving and important neighborhood in the heart of Miami.
As you celebrate the Fourth, I encourage you to do so safely. Remember the safest way to enjoy fireworks is at a display put on by professionals. If you decide to do your own fireworks, be sure to review Miami-Dade County Fire Rescue Department's safety tips . Be sure to check out County activities and other safety tips too.
Happy 4th of July!
