Even if you are not an art expert, there is no denying the grandeur of Miami International Airport South Terminal's new masterpiece murals from world renowned artist Carybé .
Those who've travelled through New York City may recall seeing these iconic murals, which were first installed in 1960, at JFK Airport. After learning these murals may be lost in the airport's restoration, Odebrecht, American Airlines and Miami-Dade County partnered to relocate the artwork to Miami International Airport, where they seem right at home.
Carybé's whimsical and colorful murals reflect our community's diversity and vibrant lifestyle. “Discovery and Settlement of the West” depicts pioneers' settlement of America and “Rejoicing and Festival of the Americas” features peoples of American nations coming together to celebrate freedom.
These murals will serve not only as a welcome to all who pass through here, but as a reminder of our culture and history. Let it be a symbol for travelers and future generations that Miami-Dade County is an American city like no other in this country, and all are welcome to be a part of our melting pot.
Carybé's murals will begin welcoming passengers who pass through the airport's South Terminal starting June 25.
Sincerely,

Mayor Carlos Alvarez
