Budget workshops continue to take place all across Miami-Dade County as we work to close a $427 million budget gap - the result of declining property tax revenues.
In three budget workshops last week, we heard residents voice a broad spectrum of opinions and concerns. Cuts to culture, parks, and social services were unacceptable to some. Others say they won't tolerate a tax increase of any kind. Still others say the unprecedented layoffs and salary cuts are too deep, as Miami-Dade County is the county's second largest employer, and its workforce helps keep the economy moving.
One thing is for sure, hard choices are ahead. There is no ideal budget. The question is, “What is the right budget for Miami-Dade County right now?” We are ready to be the community our residents want and are willing to pay for, and we are open to exploring suggestions that could produce additional cost savings.
It's not too late to learn more about the proposed budget and be heard. Click here for an up-to-date list of budget workshops.
Sincerely,

Mayor Carlos Alvarez
