    His House Children's Home

On Tuesday, I visited "His House Children's Home" and saw the great work they do firsthand. The young boy who's hand I'm shaking arrived recently from Haiti.

His House Children’s Home is a faith-based social services agency fulfilling God’s
directive to “defend the cause of the weak and the fatherless” by providing
excellent care and a safe place to call home. The agency is licensed by the Florida Department of Children and Families, contracted in the tri-county area as a residential program and child-placement agency.

His House is a healing place giving wounded children a warm, loving home and renewed hope for a brighter future. Foster and adoption training is available in English and Spanish on our campus, for more information you can visit their website here or call (305) 430-0085.

10th Anniversary of Walk Now for Autism

This weekend I had the pleasure of celebrating the 10th anniversary of Walk Now for Autism, hosted by Autism Speaks. The walk raises awareness and funds for the research and treatment of autism. It's important because every 20 minutes a child is diagnosed with this disease and a family's life is changed forever. Together with my colleague, Commissioner Carlos Gimenez, we kicked off the walk at Crandon Park. Thank you to the Miami-Dade and Key Biscayne Police Departments, and all the volunteers- more than 400 students- who made this event possible.
