Miami-Dade's Public Works Department - “One Click from Photo to GIS” - Visual inventory of roadway assets |
|
The Public Works Department of Miami-Dade County contracted eRoadInfo to setup and conduct an image based asset inventory and pavement management solution for the County. The solution consists of a mobile van equipped with five cameras, GPS, distance measuring device , pavement scanner and computer system to collect digital images along County roads. The solution is a GIS extension to ARCMap. The captured images will be processed to create a SPATIALLY registered asset database for Signs and Sidewalks. Subsequently, The GIS solution could be utilized by County forces to capture additional assets such as guardrails, trees, manholes, inlets, curb, gutter, street lights, fire hydrants, etc. If you can see it in the image it can be collected and entered into a GIS database at a fraction of the cost of traditional field crew deployments. This solution also provides an effective way of going back to verify the correctness and completeness of the data collected. Roadway Assets System characteristics
