Description: The Barbados cherry is a small, bushy tree with small leaves. It is an evergreen and may have multi-trunks. The fruits are bright red and round with a thin glossy edible skin. It has a very juicy and semi-sweet pulp. Fruits will grow from early spring to fall.
Size: Small (rarely grows more than 15ft in height). Can be shaped or pruned.
Location: Plant at least 15 feet from power lines and 15 feet from your house. Full sun with well-drained soil.
Salt tolerance: Moderate
Watering: Water during planting and for one year thereafter (see watering schedule in "Dig In Miami-Dade County" booklet). May need to water during fruiting if under drought conditions.
Fertilization: Do not fertilize until 6 months after planting. Call 305-248-3311 ext.228 for fertilizing information specific to your tree.
Pruning: Wait one year to prune. If staked, remove after 6 months
