Description: This is a small tree with narrow, alternate leaves and greenish flowers. The fruit is rounded, about 10 cm. wide and has the form of an artichoke. When it is green, segments of the fruit split showing a pinkish tinge. The fleshy pulp is slightly sweet with a custard-like consistency. It is a favorite of children. Fruit is mature late July to October.

Size: Small to medium (15-25 feet)

Location: Plant 20 feet from power lines and 15 feet from your house. Full sun, well-drained soil.

Salt tolerance: Low

Watering: Water during planting and for one year thereafter (see watering schedule in "Dig In Miami-Dade County" booklet). Usually doesn't need additional watering after one year.

Pruning: Wait one year to prune.
