Flood Control Improvements will Help Prevent Future Flooding Problems!
In just four years, DERM's Division of Recovery and Mitigation (DORM), with the help of other County departments, was able to complete a comprehensive flood control project which included drainage replacement, canal dredging, road restoration, major neighborhood drainage projects, drainage system cleaning, and sidewalk restoration. These projects repaired damaged infrastructure and implemented hazard mitigation projects to reduce flooding. By comparison, the magnitude of these projects is more than twice that of the projects following Hurricane Andrew.
The work, which was done throughout Miami-Dade County, is a major and positive accomplishment for the residents of the County because it will help to significantly prevent future flooding problems. What's more, these FEMA drainage restoration projects were completed by DORM ahead of schedule and under budget. Having seen its mission accomplished, the DORM has now lent its efforts to other design, construction and accounting activites throughout the County.
