Description of Service
Under the current primary contract (see below) for these services, the following items are acceptable for recycling:
- Empty (or outdated) ink jet printer cartridges
- Empty (or outdated) laser printer toner cartridges
Procedure
- Ensure collection services are available at your building
A list of established pick-up sites and contacts is provided in the Contract Award Sheet referenced below.
- Segregate acceptable cartridges from the rest of the trash.

Please let your co-workers know about your recycling procedures.
Although many ink and toner cartridge manufacturers provide direct recycling services through the mail, Miami-Dade County has selected a local company for collection and aggregation services. This vendor periodically collects the spent cartridges from County buildings for recycling. Please contact them for additional details.

Cost
There is no charge for this service. The revenue generated from this contract is being allocated to the Human Services Department for the benefit of the County’s summer youth jobs program.

- Is this service available to all buildings?
The availability of service may depend on frequency and volume for collection, as well as building location.
- What happens to the materials collected for recycling?
Empty printer cartridges are sent to recycling plants around the country where they are remanufactured and distributed as a refurbished product.
